About JA :: What We Do

Junior Achievement (JA) provides interactive, age-specific and sequential educational programs which prepare young people with the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for the future and make smart academic and economic choices.

Our programs are delivered through the use of a well–trained network of volunteers, who act as mentors and/or role models. JA volunteers provide many of our nation's at-risk young people with their first exposure to a positive role model and/or mentor.

JA programs focus on seven (7) key content areas. They are:

  • Business
  • Citizenship
  • Economics
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Ethics/Character Education
  • Financial Literacy
  • Work/Career Life Skills

JA programs supports economic, youth and education development as follows:

Economic Development:

JA supports economic development by fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship in youth and by instilling and modelling key business and work readiness concepts such as leadership, teamwork and critical thinking. Leveraging these concepts helps young people succeed in the world of work, which contributes to the strength of our local economy.

Youth Development:

JA empowers young people to succeed by providing mentorship opportunities and an environment in which to model the ethics concepts found in its programs. JA alumni are more confident they can succeed in a business environment.

Education Development:

JA supports education development by helping students make the critical connections between classroom learning and life after graduation by enhancing the relevance of education. JA programs use experiential/interactive learning and role-modelling to reinforce key concepts.
